3" Pocket Brass Surveying Geologist Box Sextant in black gunmetal finish with a leather case
Also called a box sextant and a very compact instrument. Edward Troughton invented this unique instrument in the early 17th century. It opens up with the cover that becomes a base and grip for taking readings. To take the image a little scope pulls out from the side. A filter also swings out when not needed and folds back inside before closing. The readings are read off the scale with the tiny adjustable magnifying glass on the top.
It is 8 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep with the cover under the top. This unique and unusual instrument is made of solid brass finished in antique gunmetal black and comes with a leather case.
This item is an exact replica of an antique pocket/ box sextant and can be used, but not for precise surveying because it needs to be properly calibrated.
Weights around 700 gm and 1kg when packed for postage.
