This is an original GPO English #232 series 1930s bakelite switching telephone. The pyramid phone has the original bell in the base. This was one of the best bakelite telephones from the 1930s. Its internal circuits are completely original and fully refurbished. There are the GPO marks, serial numbers and 'Made in England' mark under the handset and on the base. Some pieces also have the original drawing of the internal circuits stuck under the base. The base is 25 cm long and 25 cm wide. The phone is 20 cm in height. This version has the rare switching base and a tray for noting telephone numbers. This version also had a secretarial function, allowing calls to be answered at the main phone and transferred to the extension. The extension could be called by the button to the right of the main lever switch. Buzzer or magneto calling could be used. An indicator to the left of the switch showed when the extension was engaged on a call. If two extensions were provided then a second button would be fitted to the left of the main switch. The arrangement was known as extension plan 5 (two extensions) or extension plan 7 (one extension). An intercom facility was also provided. This phone has the original 'Adderbury 810322' label in the dial and original 'Byfield October 1964' tray card. Please note that this is an original phone from the 1930s, and will have some wear and tear.

The General Post Office (GPO) of the United Kingdom carried also the sole responsibility for providing telecommunication services across the country.
